Waymaker India

Our second Wisdom Centre Inauguration at Kerala

"We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.”
David Warlick

The state with the highest literacy rate in our nation is the reputation of Kerala, true to this statement we saw children equipped with confidence and aptitude at a small school in the rural limits of Piravantoor panchayat of Kerala named St. Mary’s Upper Primary School comprising altogether of 30 students only. These students ranged from the class of 5th Standard to 7th Standard.

We met every student personally and had an opportunity to speak to them about their family, hobbies, ambition, friends, and studies.  As we were engaging with these kids, we realized that all of them had never seen a Desktop computer or used one. Children from difficult backgrounds, and children from very poor families, come to this school and enjoy their afternoon meals with their teachers and learn a thing or two.

They possessed great ambitions, one wanted to join the army, while another wanted to be a nurse, and some others wanted to be a scientist. To fuel these dreams, a proper digital classroom was much needed, through our wisdom center program, we established a computer lab, with desktop computers, an internet connection, and donated books, received through our pre-loved books donation drive. The happiness of the children knew no bounds.

Bringing smiles on these children’s faces gives great joy and a sense of purpose to us and our work through the Waymaker Initiative. Every smile is valued.

“ Mam, I have told my friends who study in private schools, that now even my school has a computer lab”
